The Wilmington River
WILMINGTON ISLAND AND THE 'East' ISLANDS
The 'East' Islands in Savannah includes Wilmington, Whitemarsh, Talahi and Oatland Islands. The population is approximately 9,500 residents and encompasses an area of roughly 9.5 square miles.
These 'inland islands' are situated in a highly convenient area of Greater Savannah on its Eastside. They are 15 minutes ...or less, to the Downtown Historic Landmark District, and about 15 minutes to the beaches on Tybee Island. The close proximity of the Truman Parkway, which connects the Eastside to the Southside, makes the 'Islands' area especially appealing.
These four islands offer the type of lifestyle one might want....and imagine, in a 'island setting.' Palm trees, picturesque river views and salt water breezes afford a more relaxed pace that differentiates the East Islands from some of the more urban areas of Savannah.
The neighborhoods are varied and offer attractive homes in most any price range. Homes residing on the banks of the Wilmington River can easily be priced in the millions...while more modest homes directly across the street could sell for much, much less. There are exclusive gated subdivisions...and quaint, older cottages....and everything in between. There is also an abundance of townhomes and condominiums.
Wilmington Island itself is almost like a little self-contained community offering many conveniences to all the island dwellers. Restaurants, grocery stores, banks, schools, doctors offices, hair salons, spas....to name a few, are probably less than 5 minutes away from your front door.
If you're interested in searching for homes in this area, please click on 'Search the ENTIRE MLS!' and use Islands/Beachs in your search criteria.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of assitance. I lived on Talahi Island for 9 years so I'm sure that I can any questions that you might have.
