A stately and historic mansion in Downtown Savannah
HISTORIC SAVANNAH
'Once upon a time, there was a coastal bluff, 40 feet above a river that flowed steadily towards the Atlantic Ocean.' But starting in 1733, when General Oglethorpe arrived on the scene to build a colony here, the landscape would be transformed into one of the world's most beautiful cities-thanks in no small part to its unique layout.
Savannah was designed to include more green space than any other city in history. It was established on 24 squares -plots of land to serve as public parks-amongst thriving neighborhoods. Today, these squares serve as the city's 'living room,' offering locals and tourists alike a shady venue to rest a spell and take in the sights and sounds of this beautiful and gracious lady of the South.
Proudly, Savannah's 'National Historic Landmark District' is the largest in the United States. And unlike its sister city to the Nawth, one could ramble through this picture-perfect area for hours on end...walk from square to square, and never see all of what this gorgeous city has to offer. Every corner of every square has a story to tell. Is it any wonder that Savannah has been named, time and again, as one of the most popular tourists destinations in the nation? Is it any wonder that Savannah has been chosen numerous times as the setting for feature films such as 'Forrest Gump?' And, of course, there's 'The Book''....Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' which brought Savannah even greater prominence and popularity.
Homes in the Historic District can be quite pricey. Understandably so. But if you have the resources to make downtown Savannah your home, it will probably be one of the best decisions you've ever made for you and your family. You'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Savannah's glorious past and take your place in her shining future.
