Picturesque Bluff Drive
ISLE OF HOPE
The Isle of Hope 'National Historic District' with its expansive Live Oaks, magnolias, and azaleas, is as charming as its name implies. But it is somewhat false advertising because the Isle of Hope is not really an island, but a sandy peninsula with a high bluff looking over to Skidaway Island across the Intracoastal Waterway at the Skidaway narrows and the Isle of Hope River.
Visitors can relish the views of IOH's beautiful antebellum homes and cozy summer cottages on picturesque Bluff Drive which has been the scene of many feature films.
There are approximately 2,400 residents in the Isle of Hope and it encompasses an area of about 2 square miles. It is one of the most affluent neighborhoods in all of Georgia. The only commercial enterprize on the IOH is the Isle of Hope Marina.
Isle of Hope is home to the famous Wormsloe Plantation settled in 1736 by Noble Jones and was recognized as an important defensive outpost on the young colony's inland waterway from Savannah. It is also home to the Bethesda Orphanage which is the oldest operating orphanage in America.
